While many businesses have been forced to close down or work from home, the University District Special Improvement District continues to operate through COVID-19 as an essential service providing District security. The safety of property, businesses (open or closed) and the public remain a priority. The S.I.D.’s Stewards are patrolling the District from 6:00am to 10:00pm, seven days a week.

During the pandemic, the Steward’s health and the public they interact with are the utmost importance to the S.I.D. Each Steward is required to get their temperature taken at the beginning and mid-point of their shift. If any team member shows signs of symptoms they will be directed to self-quarentine.

All team members have been given a refresher course on the proper way to wash their hands. They are required to carry gloves and hand sanitizer at all times while working amongst the public and will be maintaining safe distances with the public and other team members.

We want to make sure that our team does not need to choose work over their personal health if confronted by COVID-19. The S.I.D. is committed to offering at least two weeks of paid sick time in the event that a Steward or one of their family members is affected by the virus.

To protect the public, Stewards are disenfecting crosswalk signal buttons several times a day to help reduce the chance of COVID-19 transmission at these touch points.

This time of year also marks the beginning of the annual spring cleaning which includes extensive powerwashing of sidewalks and detailed litter pick-up. Stewards will also be working on public beautification projects and plantings for when the stay at home order is lifted.

The University S.I.D. looks forward to welcoming the public back to the District once it is safe to do so!
