Mother's Day Brunch Ideas

Mother’s Day is here and we have the best spots for brunch for you and any of your mother figures in your life. No matter if you’re trying to get a quick coffee and pastry or a full diner experience, there are a variety of options within the University District.

A New Spot

Emmett’s

Emmett’s

Emmett’s is the newest fast casual spot to join the University District and is quickly becoming a fan favorite. The atmosphere is inviting and clean and cozy. You’re met with bright natural light from and curated plants for decoration. Emmett’s food matches the dining experience. Try their popular handheld breakfast sandwich or get the Emmett’s bowl for a delicious plant based brunch option. There is a lot of charm about Emmett’s especially because it is located in the newly renovated & restored Open Air School on Hudson & Neil.

The Open Air School was built in1927 for the purpose of teaching students at high risk of contracting tuberculosis. Emmett’s is one of the tenants in this repurposed building. So if you’re looking to impress the mother figure in your life, we suggest Emmett’s as top place to go.

Tried & True

Jack & Benny’s

Jack & benny’s

A classic of Old North in the University District, Jack & Benny’s is a quintessential diner with all of your favorite breakfast options. If your mother figure is an omelet lover this is the place to go! With so many varieties of omelets it’s hard to choose, but you can’t go wrong! (You can also build your own). They are also known for their “Gut Buster” and for always having fresh squeezed orange juice. Located at Hudson & High, Jack & Benny’s is a go-to favorite greasy spoon.

Hangover Easy

Hangover Easy

At 11th Ave and Neil Ave you’ll find Hangover Easy's original location — A popular spot in the University District.

Pro Tip: Get there early to get a table; there’s usually a well-worth it wait to be seated. Why bring Mom here? It’s got the classics and is home to the best corned beef hash in the city. Their secret: they start the process a whole day before it’s served. No matter if you need a little hair of the dog or not this Sunday morning, treat yourself to a mimosa (read: MOM-osa) or a Hangover Easy Bloody Mary.

Ethyl & Tank

Ethyl & Tank

Don’t sleep on Ethyl & Tank’s brunch — it might be a popular bar for many students on campus, but they also serve up quality food and a fun atmosphere. If you are a graduating student from OSU, this would be a great option for either before or after commencement which happens to fall on Mother’s Day this year.

On-The-Go

Buckeye Donuts

buckeye donuts

What says “Happy Mother’s Day?” A dozen of their favorite donuts and coffee from THE incomparable Buckeye Donuts.

This is great for a quick grab and go or sit on one of the stools and do some people watching from the window. You can’t go wrong with any option and if you’re feeling a little nontraditional order one of their gyros!

Stauf’s

Stauf’s

Stauf’s is one of the most popular local coffee chains in Columbus and the University District is home to arguably the coolest location of them all.

Renovated and restored, Stauf’s converted an old church on 6th Ave and Neil into a coffee shop. They preserved the integrity of the building and repurposed the church pews into seating. Enjoy your favorite coffee beverage, a pastry, or even a small hot handheld sandwich from a local vendor. The place is always buzzing with people (and caffeine). Find a spot to sit inside or on their outdoor patio. We also suggest taking it to go and do a Mother’s Day walk around this beautiful historic part of the University District.

Wishing you a wonderful Mother’s Day!
