“Linking Together” project Completed
Linking Together was inspired by recent community action for equality in Columbus and University District neighborhoods. These have sparked important community conversations in the fight for social justice. For this project, the fence links provide a physical and symbolic representation of the communities uniting to discuss these important subject matters in contrast to the barriers they often create. The University District Organization (UDO) challenged artists to submit concepts that express their interpretation of the fight for equality. A panel of community members selected two artists for two different locations within the University District.
Location #1 - Old North Columbus

“This artpiece features an array of mirrors equipped with bells. The reflection of each mirror and the ringing of each bell represent a person who has given something in the fight towards justice, bringing their individual skills and talents to the table in order to create one large movement. This piece is a celebration of the work that has been done, and through the use of reflection, a call for us all to see ourselves as active parts of future change.”
Find it at the The Little Bar (2195 N High Street) on the corner of West Norwich and High Street.
Location #2 - Weinland Park
D’nyhn M. Carter
“This artpiece features the iconic BLM fist clutching a heart, symbolizing the fight for justice that has swept our nation. The fist is secured to a base of wire, which symbolizes restrictions placed on people of color and those who support them. The heart is constructed of red ribbon and symbolizes the love and passion which motivates those who fight for justice.”
Find it at Weinland Park (1280 Summit Street) at the east basketball court.
