UDO+OSU Extension Launch Super Savers Club
The University District Organization (UDO) and the Ohio State University - Franklin County Extension’s Community Development Program have partnered to create the Super Savers Club - an financial well-being and savings incentive program. The UDO and OSU Extension have a long established partnership of providing community support to University District residents. Efforts have included connecting people with the Columbus Foundation’s Gifts of Kindness grants and helping low-income families with home repair grants.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the finances of millions of households. Recent data has shown that nearly 25% of Americans have no emergency savings for things like unexpected home repairs. Saving money can be difficult in the face of rising costs of living - especially for those makeing less than $50,000. However, individuals can take some simple steps with better knowledge of their finances and start budgeting to create an emergency savings fund.
Graduates of OSU Extension’s Money Mangement Program have the opportunity to enroll in the Super Savers Club program offered through the UDO. Club members will take additional online workshops will provide in-depth knowledge on strategies for creating an emergency savings fund, retirement, estate planning, and insurance. During the courses, members will be challenged to start saving towards a goal.
After completing from the Super Savers Club workshops, the University District Organization will match the funds participants have saved in a dedicated savings account, up to $600.
In order to enroll in the Super Savers Club, participants must:
Graduate from OSU Extension’s Money Mangement Program
Be a resident of Franklin County
Be 18 years of age or older
Have a gross income of less than $47,000 annually.
