Community to Dedicate Iuka Park Sculpture

Herrmann completes natural art sculpture
As a part of the tactical art phase of the University District Arts & Character Plan, Walter Herrmann's proposal for a sculpture between two ash tree trunks in Iuka Park was selected by a Steering Committee of community members. Over a three week period, Mr. Herrmann wove countless wood pieces (sourced from the park) to form three stacked openings which bridge the two trunks together. The insect like shape is a reminder of the destructive force of the Emerald Ash Borer which caused their untimely demise.

Visit the piece located at the intersection of North Fourth Street and Iuka Avenue (map).  Share your sculpture pics using #ConnectingIuka on your favorite social media platform!

Dedication and artist's reception
Join Iuka Ravine neighbors for a special event with the artist! Learn about Mr. Herrmann's construction process and stories from many people he met in the park while sculpting. Following the dedication there will be an artist's reception at a nearby Iuka (air-conditioned) home with refreshments.
