Property Abstracts

Your home's lineage

One of our best sources of the history of one’s home is the property abstract. Every time a real property was sold or mortgaged the property abstract was updated and recorded at the county courthouse.

Many of our savings and loan institutions would have thousands of abstracts on file as part of their mortgage documentation. One can see the unique storage and space problem the collection of hardcopy abstracts became at our lending institutions for information that duplicated what was already at the courthouse.

With coming of computer technology in the 1970s and 1980s, lending institutions returned the abstracts to the owners or shredded the documents.
